Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board

The Plumbers Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board (“the Board”) is a statutory authority which carries out its functions by means of the Plumbers Gasfitters and Drainlayers Act 1976 (“the Act”) and the Plumbers Gasfitters and Drainlayers Regulations 1977 (“the Regulations”).

The Board is committed to the promotion of high standards of work, professional conduct, and the protection of public health and safety through the registration and licensing of competent plumbers, gasfitters and drainlayers.

Competence-based licences (CBL)

Competence-based licensing was introduced on 1 April 2004. CBL requires registered and craftsman gasfitters to undertake continuous professional development (CPD) to obtain a minimum of sixteen points so that they may be eligible to be issued a competence-based licence by the 1 April each year.

Eight of the sixteen points must be technical directly related to gasfitting practice. A maximum of eight points can be carried forward to the following licence year if an excess of points have been gained.
