  4. Safety 'n Action opens doors in Hawke's Bay

Hawke’s Bay businesses will now have access to world-class health and safety training thanks to the launch of a Safety ‘n Action training space in the region.

Scheduled to open its doors in February, the facility will offer face-to-face delivery of over 100 different health and safety programmes supporting a wide range of industries including FMCG, wineries and breweries. A few key courses designed to benefit all businesses will get the ball rolling, with early 2022 offerings set to include Health & Safety Representative, Hazard & Risk Management, Permit Receiver, and Fire & Emergency Warden.

“While we have the skills and experience to train specific industries and tailor courses, we have identified these four programmes as offerings the majority of businesses will benefit from, whether they’re small office-based businesses or bigger commercial or industrial operations,” says Safety ‘n Action Sales and Marketing Director Nicola Teal.

Considered to be New Zealand’s leading provider of health and safety training and advisory services, Safety ‘n Action’s new training space will be their 14th nationwide location and will be shared with longstanding partner Red Cross.

“We already have several established customers in the Hawke’s Bay area and we are keen to expand our footprint and better support them with their burgeoning health and safety needs. This is a rapidly growing region for tourism, food and wine and we’re extremely excited to be able to help lift the bar of health and safety training here.”

Until now, Hawke’s Bay businesses wanting to access Safety ‘n Action’s programmes were restricted to online training or customised company courses delivered into the workplace by Safety ‘n Action trainers.

“Covid has given us opportunities to grow, diversify and innovate the ways in which we train. We have evolved a lot with our e-learning, but we still see huge value in face-to-face learning. Our individualised bespoke programmes are excellent but there are also big benefits in being able to attend our open courses in our Safety ‘n Action training spaces.

“The programmes are cost-effective, employers can send small groups or individuals to complete training, and we find taking staff out of their normal work environment often helps increase their focus. Not only that, but attendees get to network, collaborate and knowledge share with people from other industries.”

Nicola expects that the specialist winery-based confined space course – which they’ve already been delivering for a few years in the Tasman/Marlborough region – will prove particularly popular. And although initially only paper-based training will be offered from the shared space, trainers will head into workplaces to conduct any necessary practical learning.

“Our National Trainer Director Nicholas Matzopoulos and his team are hugely passionate about servicing the area. All of our trainers are experts in the industries they train for which enables us to deliver exactly what businesses need. We have skills to work with all industries, and given the depth and breadth of our knowledge, we also have skills for specific industries.”
