  4. Trainer Showcase: Philipp Le Roux

Regional Training Manager, Waikato, Bay of Plenty and New Plymouth

When it comes to training, Safety ‘n Action’s Philipp Le Roux knows his stuff. In the 18 years he has lived in New Zealand, he’s spent 16 years of it training people. It’s fair to say equipping people with the tools to stay safe is his passion.

A South African native, Philipp spent the first two decades of his working life as a police detective captain, before immigrating to New Zealand and pursuing a career in security. Six years spent running his own security company and five years as a security trainer at MIT laid firm foundations for the work he does now as Regional Trainer Manager for the Waikato region.

“Security and health and safety goes hand in hand,” explains Philipp. “At the end of the day it’s all about keeping people safe.”

Since joining the Safety ‘n Action team as a trainer in 2019, Philipp has truly found his happy place. He was promoted to Regional Trainer Manager Waikato in October 2021 – his “proudest career moment so far” – and since moving from Auckland to Hamilton he has worked tirelessly to strengthen Safety ‘n Action’s presence in the Waikato, Bay of Plenty and Hawke’s Bay.

“I just love my job. We have a fantastic company culture and a management team who really stand behind us. And most of all I love that lightbulb moment when you’re teaching a class and someone says, ‘oh wow, now I understand!’. There’s a lot resting on our work and it’s a great feeling to know that you are contributing in a meaningful way to improving New Zealand’s workplace health and safety culture.”
