We’re pleased to share that, effective 1 January 2026, the industry approach to Heights Training will be updated in line with the latest guidance from the Workforce Development Council (Waihanga Ara Rau).
These changes are designed to strengthen hands-on practical learning, improve learner competency, and—most importantly—enhance safety outcomes across the industry.
Your training remains the same as these changes do not come into effect until 1 Jan 2026.
Your training booked in the new year will reflect this new course structure.
Under the new industry guidelines, Unit Standards 23229 and 15757 must each be delivered as a standalone course with a minimum duration of eight hours. These unit standards can no longer be combined within a single 8-hour training day.
To remain fully aligned with these requirements, Safety ‘n Action will adjust its course structure accordingly.
The great news is that:
The only change is to how the unit standards are structured within each course.
This shift allows us to dedicate more time to practical, hands-on training, ensuring our learners continue to receive industry-leading, best-practice education that supports safer workplaces.
The following changes will occur to our courses:
Heights Safety Introduction (1 Day)
Previously included Unit Standard 23229 + 25045
New course includes Unit Standard 23229
New course offering: Employ Height Safety Equipment in the Workplace (1 Day)
This course has a prequisite of Unit Standard 23229 and will grant Unit Standard 25045
We believe this is a fantastic step forward for height safety in New Zealand and are proud to lead the way in delivering an improved training suite to our clients.
