Duncan Robertson | Otago, Southland and Central Otago Relationship Manager

Get to know our Otago, Southland and Central Otago Relationship Manager. Here’s what Duncan has to say about building strong client relationships, delivering practical training solutions, and supporting safer workplaces across the region.

Duncan covers Otago, Southland, Central Otago, and up through to Timaru, supporting businesses with practical, solutions-focused health and safety training. With a background in account management and business development, he brings a hands-on approach to working with clients across a wide range of industries.

Before joining Safety ‘n Action, Duncan worked in both global and local organisations, including a large international chemical company operating across multiple sectors. He later moved into a New Zealand SME, where he grew the commercial and industrial client base by 70% over four years while also taking on project management responsibilities. During this time, he helped develop standard operating procedures for commercial and industrial work, strengthening his interest in health and safety.

Duncan focuses on building genuine relationships with clients by being honest, upfront, and easy to work with. His approach is simple: understand how each business operates, find common ground, and deliver solutions that actually work. By becoming a trusted partner rather than just another provider, Duncan helps clients identify the right training to support their teams and operations.

He works across a wide range of industries and typically recommends training with strong practical application, including cranes, height safety, MEWP, confined space and gas detection, hazard and risk management, and health and safety representative training. His goal is to ensure clients receive training that is fit for purpose and supports safer workplaces.

One of the things Duncan enjoys most about his role is getting out on site and seeing how different businesses operate. From large-scale infrastructure like hydro dams to industrial facilities and ports, no two days are the same. Understanding how clients work allows him to better support their safety goals and training requirements.

Outside of work, Duncan comes from a farming background in West Otago and values honesty, fairness, and loyalty. Family is a big part of his life, and he enjoys spending time with his wife Evie and their son Hector. A keen fisherman, Duncan enjoys both river and sea fishing and has been fortunate enough to go game fishing in New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.
