This is intended to prepare students for their application to become a Certified Handler. It is specially designed for people required to deal specifically with highly hazardous substances. Once you have completed this course you will gain unit standard 31291.

This online course provides information on the requirements and duties of Certified Handlers. Under new regulations, anyone who handles a hazardous substance must be trained.
Before you complete this course you must complete the pre-requisite course, Management and Handling of Hazardous Substances to gain unit standards 31290 / 31293.
Additional information, training, and instruction is required for Certified Handlers who handle highly hazardous substances. These being:
US 31291 This unit standard is for people preparing for, and intend to apply for, Certified Handler certification. People credited with this unit standard are able to:
Achievement of this unit standard alone does not qualify a person as a hazardous substances Certified Handler. Candidates wishing to be certified as a hazardous substances Certified Handler may be required to undertake additional industry specific training required by regulation for the particular hazardous substances and equipment they will be working with.

31290 Demonstrate knowledge of the safe management and potential adverse effects of hazardous substances in the workplace
All students are required to have a level of written and oral English equivalent to NCEA level 1 (year 11) or IELTS 5.5 or higher, to be eligible to attend our courses. The person responsible for making bookings or authorising attendance on the course must agree to these Terms and Conditions prior to acceptance of their student(s) onto the course. Where a student does not meet our English language requirement a reader/writer must be supplied by the student or the person responsible for authorising the student’s attendance. The reader/writer cannot be another student attending the same course
