Our Online Assessor Training provides learners with the knowledge and practical skills required to assess candidate performance against standards in a workplace context, without attending a face-to-face workshop.

Aligned to NZQA Unit Standard 4098 (Level 4, 6 credits), this self-paced online course teaches participants how to prepare for and conduct assessments, make valid and consistent assessment judgements, complete assessment administration, and review assessment practice in line with quality assurance and moderation requirements.

Designed for trainers, supervisors, and workplace assessors, the online format allows learners to complete their training and assessments remotely, making it ideal for those balancing work commitments or requiring a flexible learning option. All learning materials and assessments are completed online, while still meeting NZQA and industry best practice for workplace assessment.

This online assessor training course is completed through self-paced learning and workplace-based assessment tasks, allowing participants to apply assessment principles directly within their own work environment.

What is Unit Standard 4098?

Unit Standard 4098 is a widely recognised NZQA unit standard that qualifies you to assess others in a formal workplace setting. It is required by many industries across New Zealand for individuals who carry out competency-based assessments as part of staff training or compliance requirements.

This unit standard is delivered online, but it includes a mandatory practical component that must be completed in a real workplace environment. Learners must conduct workplace assessment activities, collect supporting evidence of their practice, and upload this evidence through the online portal for assessor review in line with NZQA quality assurance and moderation requirements. Completing Unit Standard 4098 is the first step toward becoming a certified workplace assessor.
