Overview
This course provides foundational skills and knowledge for safely loading, unloading, and securing loads on a basic trailer. It covers hazard management, load restraint techniques, and regulatory requirements aligned with NZQA Unit Standard 3471, with the option to include NZQA Unit Standard 14516. Training is delivered face-to-face and incorporates practical application to ensure learners can perform load-handling tasks safely and competently in the workplace.
Please bring along your ID on training day - We need to verify the identity of students in attendance, please bring ID with you on the day of training.
Key Learning Outcomes:
Identify and apply safe practices for loading and unloading a goods vehicle.
Prepare a trailer and vehicle for safe loading operations.

Identify hazards and manage risks associated with trailer operation and load security.

Entry Criteria:
All students are required to have a level of written and oral English equivalent to NCEA level 1 (year 11) or IELTS 5.5 or higher, to be eligible to attend our courses. The person responsible for making bookings or authorising attendance on the course must agree to these Terms and Conditions prior to acceptance of their student(s) onto the course. Where a student does not meet our English language requirement a reader/writer must be supplied by the student or the person responsible for authorising the student’s attendance. The reader/writer cannot be another student attending the same course.

This course is ideal for anyone who uses trailers as part of their job, including workers in construction, agriculture, civil works, landscaping, utilities, transport, local government and maintenance industries. It is also suitable for employers wanting staff to safely load, secure and tow trailers in the workplace.

Yes. The course includes the following NZQA unit standards:
Unit Standard 3471 – Load and unload a goods vehicle (Level 2, 1 Credit)
Unit Standard 14516 – Describe the legal requirements and implications for loading and towing a simple light trailer (Level 3, 3 Credits) — available as an optional addition
The Basic Trailer course is delivered over one day (8 hours). Training can be conducted at a Safety 'n Action training centre or onsite at your workplace as a company booking, with up to 10 participants per course.
