Acquire a comprehensive understanding of the hazards and controls used when working with confined spaces.

This course will provide you with knowledge of the legislative requirements and an understanding of how to identify the associated hazards, applicable control measures and monitoring and testing requirements when working with confined spaces. It will also cover the responsibilities and duties of people entering or conducting observation duties.

In accordance with the requirements to maintain Consent to Assess for the unit standards taught on this course, Safety ‘n Action had this course pre moderated and approved by our standard setting body, The Skills Organisation.

Students need to have 3 months of work experience in the industry prior to doing the course.

    Demonstrate knowledge of hazards associated with confined space

     

Key Learning Outcomes:

  1. Recognise the legislative requirements associated with working in a confined space
  2. Assess the level of harm from hazards and determine the suitable controls needed
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of gases, their causes, their harmful effects and correctly select and explain the purpose and operation of gas detectors including the safety checks and certificates required
  4. Understand the responsibilities and duties of people entering confined spaces or conducting observation duties for confined spaces
  5. Determine the legal documentation requirements for the entry, define the necessary considerations on an entry permit form, complete an entry permit form and all additional relevant documentation

Entry Criteria:

  1. All students are required to have a level of written and oral English equivalent to NCEA level 1 (year 11) or IELTS 5.5 or higher, to be eligible to attend our courses. The person responsible for making bookings or authorising attendance on the course must agree to these Terms and Conditions prior to acceptance of their student(s) onto the course. Where a student does not meet our English language requirement a reader/writer must be supplied by the student or the person responsible for authorising the student’s attendance. The reader/writer cannot be another student attending the same course.
