Overview

Become a confident Health and Safety Representative by learning the essentials of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, how WorkSafe operates, and the key duties and rights of everyone in the workplace. This course builds practical understanding of the HSR role—enabling participants to support safer work practices, raise issues effectively, and strengthen worker participation.

Please bring along your ID on training day - We need to verify the identity of students in attendance, please bring ID with you on the day of training.

Key Learning Outcomes:

  • Describe the purpose of the HSWA 2015, and key duties and roles including worker participation.
  • Explain the role and functions of the Health and Safety Representative under HSWA 2015.

Entry Criteria:

All students are required to have a level of written and oral English equivalent to NCEA level 1 (year 11) or IELTS 5.5 or higher, to be eligible to attend our courses. The person responsible for making bookings or authorising attendance on the course must agree to these Terms and Conditions prior to acceptance of their student(s) onto the course. Where a student does not meet our English language requirement a reader/writer must be supplied by the student or the person responsible for authorising the student’s attendance. The reader/writer cannot be another student attending the same course.

The Health & Safety Representative (HSR) Stage 1 course provides the essential knowledge and skills required for elected Health and Safety Representatives under New Zealand's Health and Safety at Work Act 2015. Yes. Successful participants achieve NZQA Unit Standard 29315 (Level 3, 2 Credits): Describe the role and functions of the Health and Safety Representative in a New Zealand workplace. This nationally recognised unit standard supports competency as a Health and Safety Representative.
The Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 requires elected Health and Safety Representatives to be given the opportunity to attend approved initial training. Completing HSR Stage 1 provides representatives with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively carry out their role and exercise their powers under the legislation.
