Understand the responsibilities of a Safety Observer, including specifically for, Hot Work, Confined Space Entries and Working at height.

People credited with this unit standard are able to assist with the identification of hazards and controls; monitor adherence to safe work practices for work taking place in hazardous environments; and respond in accordance with the defined site emergency response plan should this be required.

Students need to have 3 months of work experience in the industry prior to doing the course.

    Demonstrate knowledge of safety observer responsibilities in the workplace.

     

Key Learning Outcomes:

  1. Identify criteria where a Safety Observer is required to control, monitor and maintain safety for activity.

  2. Identify hazardous environments and work activities with the potential for harmful incidents that require safety observer control.

  3. Understand the responsibilities of a Safety Observer, including specifically for:
    Hot Work
    Confined Space Entrant
    Working at Height

  4. Identify emergency response measures that are consistent with site emergency response plans.

Entry Criteria:

  1. All students are required to have a level of written and oral English equivalent to NCEA level 1 (year 11) or IELTS 5.5 or higher, to be eligible to attend our courses. The person responsible for making bookings or authorising attendance on the course must agree to these Terms and Conditions prior to acceptance of their student(s) onto the course. Where a student does not meet our English language requirement a reader/writer must be supplied by the student or the person responsible for authorising the student’s attendance. The reader/writer cannot be another student attending the same course.
