This comprehensive course provides learners with an in-depth
understanding of health and safety legislation, duty holders, and the regulator WorkSafe NZ:
- Introduces New Zealand’s health and safety legislative
framework including the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015,
regulations, and safe work instruments. Outlining the different
duty holders like PCBUs, officers, workers, and others. - Examines the specific responsibilities of duty holders and requirements for worker representation, participation, and engagement.
- Covers the role and powers of the regulator WorkSafe NZ
including education, engagement, and enforcement. It details
notification requirements for notifiable events.
Key Learning Outcomes:
- Demonstrate an operational understanding of current New Zealand Health and Safety Legislation
- Describe key duties and the application of those duties in the workplace in accordance with Health and Safety Legislation
- Describe the key roles in terms of worker participation and engagements in relation to the HSWA
Entry Criteria:

All students are required to have a level of written and oral English equivalent to NCEA level 1 (year 11) or IELTS 5.5 or higher, to be eligible to attend our courses. The person responsible for making bookings or authorising attendance on the course must agree to these Terms and Conditions prior to acceptance of their student(s) onto the course. Where a student does not meet our English language requirement a reader/writer must be supplied by the student or the person responsible for authorising the student’s attendance. The reader/writer cannot be another student attending the same course.
